Fraud in all its forms is now the most common criminal offence perpetrated in the UK. The estimated cost is £193 billion a year, which equates to just under £3,000 per head of population. It is conservatively estimated to cost the public sector £4.8 billion per year. Detected fraud and error accounts for £2.2 billion a year: losses that public front line services can ill afford and which contributes to council tax increases year-on-year at a time of severe austerity.  What is Fraud?
